Even in childhood, the contours of our features are being etched into a narrative not of our making. A single, unyielding look, and the world begins to define us: dreadful, wizened, hideous. Labels whispered and solidified, a prison built of glances. How swiftly the gaze of society could strip innocence, how easily a child could become a stigma, a grotesque caricature, simply for the way he appears, and becomes no longer human.

How was the video made?

Initial AI Image Generation and Glitching:

Eight AI-generated portraits were compiled into a PDF (JPG compression).

The PDF's raw data was manipulated using a text editor (Notepad++) by replacing hexadecimal characters, creating initial glitches.

The glitched PDF was viewed in SumatraPDF.

Each glitched image was copied and pasted into a single Photoshop file as separate layers (PSD).

The PSD file's raw data was again manipulated in Notepad++, further glitching the image layers.

The glitched layers were then adjusted in Photoshop using Hue and Saturation adjustments.

All layers were blended into a final PNG image.

Image Sorting and Animation:

The PNG image was processed using the "UltimateSort" script by GenerateMe, creating a series of sorted frames.

A selection of these frames was exported.

The frames were compiled into an animated GIF.

The GIF was encoded into an MP4 video.

The GIF's raw data was databended in Note++

The glitched GIF was played in IrfanView and screen recorded via ShareX.

The two MP4 video files that were made from the GIF were edited together in Adobe Premiere.

Video Glitching and Audio Integration:

The edited video track was exported as an MP4.

The MP4 was converted to an AVI file using the ASV1 codec.

The AVI video's raw data was imported into Audacity as a RAW file, glitched, and saved.

The glitched AVI was converted back into an MP4 video using FFmpeg.

The glitched video was imported into Adobe Premiere.

Audio was added: a Mubert-generated musical track and a voiceover.

The voiceover was created using TTSMaker, based on text generated by Gemini 2.0, which drew inspiration from a paragraph in No Longer Human.

Custom Desktop Tutorial🎀✨

I've finally finished my custom desktop, and installing all the software I need on my new laptop. So I thought I'd upload a tutorial on how I did it 🥰

I'm still not 100% happy with all the icon choices but I'll add swap ones out as I see them. Here's some tips on how I did it:

Making Windows 11 desktop shortcuts

Windows 11 makes it weirdly hard to make desktop shortcuts. Its easy with some apps, almost impossible with others. The easiest possible way which took me ages to find out is that if you go onto your windows start menu and click all apps, you can drag them onto the desktop to make a shortcut. It won't work from search, it has to be from the full list. Very annoying, but it works for pretty much every app.

Opening multiple links at once

I like having websites I frequently visit on my desktop, especially if its an online course I'm working on because it's like a reminder to do it. Sometimes there are websites that I always use together and to save time and space I've set up a way for them to open at the same time from one shortcut using python and windows batch files.

Heres how to do it:

Step 1) Make your script

Make sure you have python installed (you can find it in the windows app store)

Create a python script which opens the websites you want using the webbrowser module. This is the code you need

import webbrowser webbrowser.open_new_tab("your_url_here") webbrowser.open_new_tab("your_other_url")

Literally just copy and paste that into notepad, or an IDE (adding more lines if you need them) and save it with the extension .py to make it a python file.

Copy the path to your file location by right clicking your new file and choosing "copy as path"

2) Make a batch file

Open another tab in notepad and use the following script and copy the following template into it

Note - Please remove the slash between the @ and echo

@/echo off python "C:/your/file_path/here"

Save this file with the extention .bat which will run the code when its clicked and open all your urls. You are going to want to save this in your files somewhere , and then right click and choose create shortcut.

You are going to want to do this if you want to use a custom icon because windows doesn't let you directly change icons for batch files for security reasons.

How to make and use custom icons

Find your images

You can make your own but I saved mine from pinterest.

2) Remove the background

Use a background remover tool (I used remove.bg) to remove the background, if the image has lots of black or white it might remove this too but you can add it back in using a drawing app (I used procreate). Save it as a PNG.

3) Convert it to an ICO file

This is the type of file that can be used as icons in windows. The converter I used is convertio, but keep in mind there is a limit of 10 minutes a day for the free version.

4) Change the icons

Right click on the desktop shortcut, choose properties and then choose change icon. Find your .ICO file and click Ok.

How to convert CAP patterns into 100% working package files

(tutorial originally by @ohmysims, I just copied it, put the screenshots back, and wrote it without the “keep reading” cutaway that’s in every reblog I found. Click on images to enlarge them. See my notes at the end. Wayback Machine backup)

Thanks to this god-blessed tutorial, I’ve been able to convert some patterns made with CAP into 100% working package files. And I thought I should keep a record of the process here for future reference. I only rewrote the exact same tutorial with pictures and this tut is really simple.

I. Convert a pattern made with Create-a-Pattern tool into package format. (Read this tutorial if you don’t know how to convert.)

II. GIVE THE PATTERN A NEW RESOURCE NAME

The cause of the notorious Materializing Materials error is that ALL the patterns made with CAP has the SAME instance value (*). So, the solution is to give each pattern a unique instance value.

Open the file with S3PE. Double click on the _IMG tags with instance of 7edd20633162e6ce.

Click [Use resource name]

Write down any unique name

Click FNV64 button. It will regenerate new instance value.

The instance has changed to 0xAEE5CFA2DED89772. Copy the value except for the first two letters (0x).

III. EDIT XML TO HAVE THE NEW RESOURCE NAME

Right-click the _XML that has the type 0x0333406C and select [Notepad] so you can edit the xml file.

Replace 7edd20633162e6ce with the value you copied in Step II-5. In this case it is AEE5CFA2DED89772.

Save the XML file and close the notepad.

Select YES to commit change AND SAVE.

(*) this is NOT the reason for the Materializing Materials error. The issue described and fixed by @ohmysims. manifests as multiple patterns being replaced by the image of a single pattern. The MM error is caused by an extra space where there shouldn’t be one. For more info, check these resources:

Long answer warning

I start with getting the static/regular image if possible you want a png (even if it has a background) since they’re higher quality than jpegs.

Then I open up a notepad on my computer or phone to keep all the links in until I put them into Linkslist.

Then I look for gifs, I usually start on Tumblr then move to google if I can’t find the right stuff then if I still can find the right stuff and won’t comprise I’ll try to find a video to make a gif from

When saving gifs be mindful of the scum of the earth know as webp. Webp was supposed to be a universal file format but not many sites support it this is made worse by google converting literally everything to webp. This can be avoided on Tumblr by doing this on computer: click open image in new tab, scroll to the end of the url, it will say gifv, take of the v and then press enter, it will now save as a gif.

In an ideal world all the gifs you like would be a 1:1 ratio (square shaped) but alas that almost never happens. This is problem because of the way Tumblr formats images. Take this example: the pictures of both ENAs are the same file but since one was paired with a wide but short image it was zoomed in so it matches.

There is no way (as far as I know) to crop images within Tumblr so you’ll have to do it outside of here. Me and everyone else seems to use ezgif. Ezgif can convert webps to gifs, crop gifs, add effects to them and many other useful things.

Anyway now that I have some gifs I like I make a draft post and see how it looks. Then I rinse and repeat the gif finding process until I’m happy with the board.

Finally I put all my links into Linkslist (I do this because I’m lazy and don’t want to put 8ish links into a post one by one) then I add a caption to my board, put the sources link and done!

Also I believe it’s technically possible to make one large file in photoshop then post it to Tumblr as one image. I say technically possible because the size of a gif file that holds 8 moving parts and isn’t compressed beyond recognition would be too much for Tumblr to handle and would most likely exceed the size limit.

Also also Tumblr can only do 3 image for width. So if you wanted let’s say a 4x3 board you would have to merge gifs in photoshop or photopea put a white divider between them while also being mindful of how the image size stretching I mentioned before works. So that’s why no one does anything besides 2x3 and 3x3 stimboards.

This might sound like a lot of work but when you get in the groove it’s really fun. Especially when it’s a request so you’re extra excited to get it out so they can enjoy it.

13. Where or from whom did you learn how to gif?

When I first started, I think I had found some tutorial somewhere that I was using and I wasn't having a great time of it lol. But then @itstruthtime linked me to this tutorial and it pretty much changed my life tbh. 20/10, would recommend to anyone who wants to learn to gif. Of course there are lots of other little tutorials and various tips and tricks I've picked up along the way, but as for the basics, it's that tutorial. And also just like, I would like to make a point to shout out Cim in general who has been very patient and helpful and encouraging as I've been learning things, and is always happy to kindly let me know when I have been doing things I didn't even realize were wrong, like always posting my gifsets as text posts instead of image posts lmao.

19. What is your giffing process like?

Well, it's basically like the tutorial I linked in the last question. I plan out my concept, including scenes and any text that will need to go with each gif, and I usually just write that down in a notepad file that I don't even save. Then I check to see if I have screencaps of the scenes I want to use - sometimes I'll end up finding a different scene to use that way as well, but if I don't already have the scene I want screencapped and I don't find an alternative, then that's my next step (screencapping my beloathed). Then it's loading all the frames in and converting them to a smart object with the gif action I have. And then the fun begins!

Usually I start with a curves layer and maybe levels just to get the brightness right, and then I start playing around with hue/saturation and selective colour to adjust the colouring. About a month ago I realized that you can actually adjust the hue/saturation of individual colours rather than the whole image at once so uh... thanks for Cim for helping me come to that realization lmao. The option was literally right there I just didn't look so WHOOPS. Once I have the colouring right I move on to any typography that needs to be added, which is basically just a process of cycling through a million fonts until I find one or two that feel right, picking colours and setting styles, switching it screen or vivid light or exclusion or whatever else makes it look the best. I do all of that on just one gif, and then I usually drag those layers over to the other gifs as a base and just tweak them until everything looks like it goes together well.

Then I export them all to gifs and load them into a post draft, and this is the point where I usually realize that I forgot to set them to loop so they just play once or stop, or I didn't adjust the end of the timeline so it just goes white and the typography is there without an image behind it for a moment lol. So then I go back and fix that and save the gifset as a draft. I take a look at the post there to see how it looks all together, and I also look at it on my phone (I've realized that some of my gifsets are probably too saturated because for some reason everything looks so much less saturated on my laptop than on my phone, so this is an important step). And then it's just a matter of tweaking things until it looks good in both places!

26. How many un-posted sets are in your drafts right now?

I've answered this already, and the answer remains: none. I'm too impatient for that lol. If I had anything in my drafts, you would know because I would be making posts complaining about it (see: 1, 2, 3, 4)

42. How is your gif folder organized? Is it organized at all?

Yes it's very organized!!

Okay so first in my main gif folder I have a folder for everything I've posted, a folder for templates and just other useful things to come back to, a folder my things I make for my own blog (basically just my header I guess lol), and a folder for things I make for the KurtbastianArchive blog. And then any other folders are just for gifsets that I am working on at the moment. You can see in this screenshot that I'm planning an alignment gifset (like an alignment chart of Glee characters) and a Kurtbastian gifset with Mr. Brightside lyrics... I have not touched either in a long time lmao so they won't be happening anytime soon.

And then within the posted folder, I have a folder dedicated to each gifset I've ever posted. I have sort of standard naming conventions, where I generally start with the character or ship it's about, and will also include if it's for a specific event or a specific person usually, and then some other detail to describe it (which, as you can see, is usually a song name lol).

And then inside each of those folders, I have the PSD and the GIF file for each gif in the set :)

I also have a really organized file structure set up for my screencaps! Each episode gets it's own folder, and then within the folder there are subfolders for specific scenes. That way once I screencap a scene, I don't have to do it again, I can just come back and reuse the same screencaps. I usually try to screencap a whole scene at a time rather than just the specific moment that I plan to use for exactly that reason.

hi!! i was wondering do you have any tips for making stim boards

:O HELLO!!! i’d be glad to share some tips with you, and i’m really honored you’d ask me hh! i’ll walk you through my process of making stimboards.

1) organization

before you make the stimboard, keep your downloads organized! make a folder on your computer or phone labelled as what the stimboard is. then, either have a memopad or notepad open so you can copy and paste your sources and what they are. i either name the files based on what the stim is like so i can match it with the source, which i label the same way, or i use letters and numbers. sourcing is important!! 

2) identify the theme

is it a character, or based around a color? try to have the center image be the main focal point. if it’s a character, use stims that relate to their colors, character design/elements (for expample, if they wear stars, use stars!) make sure the theme is relevant throughout the stimboard

2) balance and pattern

balance is key into making the stimboard look nice and good! there’s a difference between just throwing some gifs together and actually thinking about it! when i make my stimboards i make sure a) there is a balance in color, and b) there is a balance in what the stim is. you want to have a pattern! for example, maybe you’ll have food stims of the same color in the middle row, then slime in the top left and bottom right corners of the same colors. make sure there’s a pattern, and that the colors are balanced in the pattern too!

3) know the theme well! 

if you don’t know a series, do extra research on a character to find stims that fit their background, likes, interests, etc. i like to put easter eggs in my stimboards for fans of certain series! make sure that the stims either add to the overall theme (like colors and whatnot) or fit your assigned theme! 

4) make sure your gifs are square! 

if the gif or image isn’t square, it looks funny and changes the formatting of your other images/gifs. i use ezgif.com to crop and make gifs. if you want to make a gif, just go to a convert to mp4 site, there’s plenty available! 

5) CREDIT!!

once again, this is super important! making gifs can actually take a lot of time because all those ‘satisfying’ videos can be large files. people spent time and money making those cinematically shot videos with slime, sand, and whatnot as well! 

6) honestly...go ham! have fun! 

you don’t really have to follow any rules, these are just how i make my stimboards! so really, the key points are

-know your theme and identify the theme

-organize your downloads 

-have a balance of colors and types of stims

-have stims that fit the theme

-make the board visually appealing 

-credit the gifmakers/video creators

-have fun! 

honestly, the most important thing to have is creativity and patience. tumblr can be annoying sometimes, and for me, making stimboards is a 20 minute to hour long process for just one. if you have a lot of ones you wanna make, do it at your own pace!
